I've been thinking lately about how content I am in my life right now. I have a wonderful job, my friends and family are more supportive than they've ever been and even though I have some bad days, I am generally happy. It reminded me of a cartoon I watched with my oldest nephew about 10 years ago.
When he was younger, he was the early riser of the family (not so much anymore, especially since he's become a teenager). Anyway, he was one of those that as soon as he saw the sun, he thought it was time to get up. As I've gotten older, I am not able to sleep in as long as I used to, so that particular morning I got up early and joined him on the couch as he watched a Saturday morning cartoon.
During this cartoon, a sister was complaining to her friends that her brother's room was bigger than hers. She complained to everyone that would listen, including her friends, family, strangers, and even the waiter at the local restaurant. Her goal through the entire episode was for people to agree with her and that it would somehow be changed so she could have the bigger room. She finally persuaded someone to help her switch the rooms...everything in her room would go in her brothers and vice versa, and she hoped that he would never notice.
In the end, some terrrible "tornado" swept through both of the rooms and caused havoc on her, her brother and the rest of the family. They were being attacked, all because of her jealousy. In the end, she learned that things weren't so bad and that she was content. Content with her family...her belongings...her room. Each time she said she was content, the "tornado" grew smaller and smaller until it was no more. At the end of the episode, she was yelling out to the field and mountains "I'm content! You hear me...I'm CONTENT"
It made me think about how content I am in my life right now. Don't get me wrong...I still have those lonely, single days lurking around to get me down and depressed. But, I'm happy with what I have right now. Afterall, we should be living in the moment.
Phillipians 4:11-13 (HCSB) - I don't say this out of need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am in. I know both how to have a little, and I know how to have a lot. In any and all circumstances, I have learned the secret of being content - whether well-fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need. I am able to do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Funny how a kid's cartoon can teach you the best traits in life...especially on days you least expect it. But, that is how our Heavenly Father is...He teaches us the best things in life on the days we least expect it. And, I know He will send the perfect one on the day I least expect it.
